    Default spark plugs

    I have a '73 and '78 scout. What are the best plugs and gap.

    I'd use anything but Champions. NGK, Bosch, even Autolite have worked well for me.

    NGK and Autolites are suppose to be the best ones to run.

    0.30 gap

    Do not use the autolite 303, which is found in some of the databases. That works fine for a loadstar application, but scouts run 1000 rpms lower, and they need the spark farther into the combustion chamber. The correct application is the autolite 85 plug.

    I had the NGK;s in mine and am A LOT HAPPIER with Autolite 85's.

    Motor has more power, not stalling when accelerating, and seems to be less "cold blooded"
    Desperately trying to get rid of the Scooby stripe and recently ordered lift!

    Newbie ? here.
    So can I asume the Autolite 85s are fine for the 345 as well?

    Yes. They work just fine. I gap mine at .035 and they still work great.
