I Own a 79 Scout that has been redone. Never had any issues with the rear end. This past weekend while driving home from a game with the kids I smelled something that I thought was the brakepads rubbing. Only three miles to my house and next thing I see is my rear right wheel passing me with the axle (?) attached to it. Slid for about 75 yards and thank god no one got hurt or any big damage. I jacked it up and slid the axle back into the sleeve (?) and had it towed home. I am not very mechanical but my neighbor is and has helped me in the past. Where do I start. Connected to the rim was the outside of the real brake drum. I guess the wheel bearing snapped. Any help as to where you start with this type of problem would be greatly appreciated.
