    Default How do you identify the engine?

    i have an older scout and i have a 4 cylinder in there, but a dunno for sure if i have the 196 or the 152. how would i for sure be able to identify the engine?

    The engine is stamped on the drivers side below the distributor, there's a small rectangular pad with it stamped. May need a mirror to see it. I found mine by looking through the wheel well with a flashlight.

    Another quick way to tell is the oil dipstick tube, there are two mounting holes, typically the top hole is means a 196; the bottom hole is a 152.
