Default sd 33 oil in my radiator

I'm new to diesel engines. Have an 86 CJ 10a, which runs great. Has 3400hrs on motor, Nissan sd 33. Opened radiator cap to find it filled with what looks like oil. So, is this a common problem on these motors? What could be the culprit? Headgasket, cracked head, something else? Looking for a little info. till I get to work on it.

It's probably the oil cooler located on the side of the block.

Oil cooler is shot. I can get one from Nissan for about $340, plus the gaskets I need.
