    Default Wheel backspacing

    Hey guys,

I'm looking at getting a set of 4 wheels + tires off the net.

My question is, First off, for a scout I'm assuming 15x10's are the best 4 rims..?
And they come in a couple different amounts of Backspacing. 3.5" 3.75" and 4.0" I believe.

So.. the more backspacing you have the closer the wheels would be inside the fenders, and less backspacing would make them stick out of the wheel wells more, giving you more turning clearance with say 35"s?

Am i understanding this properly ha ha, Or am i just totally off base here?
And any suggestions on a cheap 35x12.5x15 that is very aggressive.

And what are you guys running..? (with stock axles and no spacers or fender modification)

    Thanks

You pretty much hit it on the head there with the backspacing. The higher the number, the closer it sits to the frame and vice-versa.

I'm running 33x12.5r15's on a set of 15x8.5 wheels. Suits me just fine, and I'll eventually end up with 35's with some spacers.

Do you think id be ok with 10" instead of 8.5"?
Or should i go with the 8.5ers...
I just don't want to have to get spacers later.. and obviously don't want to rub ha ha

    Thanks for the help

Would it make a dif from 8.5 - 10? Since the tire is still 12.5" wide? (on steering radius/rubbing)

    Thanks guys

You'd be fine with the 10's... they won't hurt anything. The tire will actually sit a less "ballooned" that way. They're just a little more expensive, and when I bought mine they came as a set. Spacers are just a cheap, easy way to fix backspacing.

FYI, 10" wheels with less than 5" backspacing on a D-44 semi-floater (rear) will cause you to lose an axle or two.

Why would that happen on the rear axle ? Explain... what do you mean lose an axle or 2? blow the axle? throw the inner shafts?

Why would the spacing effect the rears strength...
